NY Knicks ink G Landry Shamet to one-year contract

The Knicks bolstered their backcourt on Saturday by officially signing veteran guard Landry Shamet to a one-year contract. The deal was first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and later confirmed by SNY's Ian Begley.

Shamet, 27, has played on five teams over the last seven years. He spent last season with the Washington Wizards where he averaged 7.1 points per game over 15.8 minutes per game, shooting 33.8 percent from three-point range.

Over his career, Shamet is a 38.4 percent three-point shooter, averaging 8.7 points per game.

Shamet fits as a veteran depth piece - which the Knicks lacked last year as the injuries mounted. He also reunites with Mikal Bridges, whom he played with in Phoenix.

Per Begley, the Knicks had the edge over other suitors for Shamet because he was looking for a winning environment.

The Knicks are allowed to have up to 21 players under contract in training camp but must get down to 15 guaranteed contracts by Opening Night.
