New Delhi: England’s prolific batsman Joe Root has achieved several milestones in the ongoing England vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test match at Lord’s in London. Root has made history by scoring his second consecutive century in the Test match at the historic English venue.

The right-handed batter has become the highest-run scorer at Lord’s in Test cricket’s history as he surpasses legendary English cricketer Graham Gooch. Before getting to his century, Root went past Gooch in this prime list. Gooch, the iconic English cricketer, had made 2015 Test runs at Lord’s, while Root needed 97 to surpass the former England star.

Joe Root is now the third-ever cricketer to hit centuries in both innings in a Test at Lord’s. He had hit 142 in the first innings when England put 427 runs on board. Root joins the elite list of cricketers with twin tons at Lord’s in a single test. There were only three players who hit two centuries in the same Test at Lord’s before Root, West Indies Cricketer George Headly, Former England Captain Michael Vaughan and Legendary England Cricketer Graham Gooch.

This was also Root’s 34th century in Test cricket as he became England’s most prolific ton-maker in the format, going past Alastair Cook, who had 33 Test tons to his name.
