New Delhi: The countdown to the highly anticipated third season of the DP World ILT20 has officially begun, with just two days remaining until the tournament kicks off on January 11th and runs until February 9th. Cricket stars Tim Southee, Ben Dunk, Azam Khan, Tymal Mills, Joe Weatherly, and Adam Hose arrived in Dubai on Wednesday to kickstart the trophy tour and showcase their incredible journeys in the sport. Fans can look forward to hearing firsthand from these luminaries about their experiences and insights into the world of cricket.
The prestigious tournament, now the second-most viewed league globally after the Indian Premier League (IPL), got a major boost last month when Sharjah Warriorz revealed the acquisition of New Zealand icon Tim Southee. Sharjah Warriors have selected JP Duminy as their head coach for the third season of the International League T20 (ILT20). The 40-year-old, who is presently serving as the batting coach for South Africa’s white-ball team, will lead the Warriors.
During a recent press briefing, J.P. Duminy highlighted several key players who are expected to make a significant impact for Sharjah Warriors in the ILT20.
“The preparations have been going well and we have had about three training sessions as I mentioned earlier we have got a practice game today. I think one of the critical players in our team is probably the man to my left (Adil Rashid) as mentioned in the conversation we are ready, a match-winner, a guy who is prolific in terms of skill. He understands the skill, how to impact the game and alongside him is us and probably our top three are the strengths you know guys like TKC (Tom Kohler-Cadmore), Johnson Charles and Jason Roy”. Said, Sharjah Warriors head coach J.P Duminy.
Duminy, who represented South Africa in 46 Tests, 199 ODIs, and 81 T20Is, succeeds Johan Botha as the head coach of Sharjah Warriors after Botha led the team in the previous season. Following his retirement, Duminy was involved with the South African domestic team Boland Rocks and served as the head coach of Paarl Royals during the inaugural season of SA20.
“I am delighted to take up the challenge of being the head coach with the Sharjah Warriors. This is an excellent set-up, which is vibrant and full of optimism and ideas for the upcoming season We are looking forward to building a strong squad for this year, and we are excited to see what lies in store for us,” said Duminy.
