Ireland entered their sixth game of 2024 with a disappointing record of not scoring in four out of their last five matches. They came close to ending this scoring drought when Chiedoze Ogbene appeared to have found the back of the net, only for his effort to be disallowed for offside.
Instead, Greece took control of the goalscoring matters in the second half. First, Fotis Ioannidis fired home five minutes after the break before Christos Tzolis sealed the points for the visitors late on.
It means Hallgrimsson - whose side managed just one shot on target against Greece - has begun his spell as Ireland coach with back-to-back 2-0 defeats.
