The Three Lions were narrowly defeated by Spain in the final of Euro 2024, marking their second consecutive final loss under coach Gareth Southgate. Following the heartbreaking defeat, Southgate made the difficult decision to resign from his position just days later.

The FA moved swiftly to elevate Lee Carsley from U21 head coach to interim senior boss after he impressively led the U21's to a European title in 2023.

Carsley will remain in post until the end of 2025, to cover all six UEFA Nations League games, before a decision on a permanent successor is made.

The former Premier League midfielder has outlined his desire to take on the job full-time following two solid opening wins over the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

However, the process is far from complete, with an exclusive report from The Telegraph claiming Potter and Lampard are on a five-man shortlist, alongside Carsley.

Potter lasted just seven months in charge at Stamford Bridge, from the start of the 2022/24 season, before Lampard rounded off the campaign as caretaker, ahead of Mauricio Pochettino's arrival.

The duo are keen to return to management, but their most recent performances leave plenty to be desired, if they were offered a chance by the FA.

The remaining two names are Eddie Howe and 'dream candidate' Pep Guardiola, but the former looks to be committed to Newcastle, and the latter's future hinges on Manchester City's hearing over financial charges with his contract expiring in 2025.
